Title: Midi Yoke install failure
Post by mais on Oct 11th, 2003, 10:05am
Hi!

I just got everything up and running so nice on my test XP partition. But when i rebooted into my audio 2000 partition, and tried to install Midi-Yoke, it failed!

all looked good untill the very end. the little window with the 8 ports etc didnt show up. The last window with the finish button said it had installed midi yoke, but an error accurred during installation. and the virtual ports are nowhere to see!
I did follow the install instructions very carefully, and i am pretty well known in the windows enviroment, so this should be straightforward, but it is not... i use SP4, and have optimized a bit (but that i also had done on the xp part.).

please tell me this is a well known issue :) cause i really thought everything was going to work finally.

thanks!

So i tried out a little bit more, though still not working.. :(

but i do have some more debug information:

-when i pack out the files from the packed archive, i get three files. oemsetup.inf, myokent.rtf and myokent.dll. What's this thing with a myokent.dl_ file in the midi-ox dir? i can't see one.
-anyway, i do everything by the book, and get to point 14 in the picture-tutorial installation of win2000. i get the "files needed" window, and browses to where the oemsetup.inf file is.

-i press ok (step 15), but i do not get to point 16. that window just doesnt pop up. and here the installer guide confuses me a little bit, cause i dont have any myokent.dl_ file, i only have the already expanded file. so if i am supposed to have that file i can understand the next thing that happens.

-i come to the window in step 17, but the text reads "an error occurred during the installation of the device. the system cannot find the file specified."

so i postulate that the error might have something to do with the installer trying to find a dl_ file, but i only have the dll file.

jamie or anyone?  please make my day :)

ps. more debug info:

at step 14, when that window pops up two files are created in the directory \winnt\inf\mediainf called INFO.pnf and INFO.inf. the first file is totally non-ascii, the latter reads:

Welcome to the bizarre world of computer problems!

So, i just booted my audio-partition now, and though "what the hell, i'll give it a shot today as well". And what do you know, it worked! No problems! So i'm thinking "this cant be right", but it is! more though tells me the only thing i have done is moveing my motu midi device from one usb-port to the other, because of some strange problem there. apparently that must have affected the midi yoke installation in some strange way..

i dont really care, now it works, like it should have worked all the time, and im happy :)

I'm glad to hear it is now working.  There are a few issues with Windows 2000/XP.  Here is one problem and solution:
