Title: w2k installer failure progress
Post by ganchmaster on May 28th, 2004, 10:59pm
Like many other people, I was having trouble installing midi yoke - I would step through the installation exactly as suggested and at the end receive a dialog stating something about a file not found (which is hogwash).  I _do not_ have any trouble with too many identical midi registry entries (I looked), I have full Administrator permissions, I do not have the system set to deny installing unregistered drivers.  I hacked around for a while in the registry, getting nowhere, and also tried the autoinstaller posted to this group.
What finally worked, for some reason, was creating a new account with admin privileges and using that to install the driver.  I read somewhere else that the reason this type of error happens is some kind of registry editing permissions.  I don't know why creating a new account helped when my old one was the builtin Admin account, but it did.  I have had this same problem when installing USB device drivers.
So, if you have the "can't find the file specified" error, try creating a new account and using that to install.  I was then able to go back to my usual account and use Midi Yoke with no problems.
   Hope this helps someone.
