Title: Mapping MIDI CC values to diferent values
Post by DJ_Wildstyle on Nov 1st, 2002, 8:36am
Hi

I am trying to map the default CC values from the controllers on my Oxygen8 keyboard to the values required to operate functions on a VSTi through MIDI Ox.  I would then like to save patches that would be applicable to a certain VSTi.  I am using Cubase SX as my sequencer.
I have currently set MIDI Ox to recieve MIDI from the Oxy8 and output to port MIDI Yolk1.  Cubase is set to recieve MIDI from MIDI Yolk1.  Is this correct?  :-/
I have set the translation map screen to read: -

* NoteOn 90 90 * *   1 ProgChg 83 83 * *

Doing this I am trying to Map CC90 from the Oxy8 to CC83 for use in CM101 (filter cutoff) but with no success.  I noted that the MIDI data1 otput (5A) did not change after applying the map.

Could anyone please help me set up MIDI Ox to perform this task?

Many thanks

Wildstyle

That part sounds correct...

The MIDI Message Type CC means Controller, so you would want to use Ctrl instead of NoteOn and ProgChg:

 * Ctrl 90 90 * *   1 Ctrl 83 83 * *

Hi Jamie

Thanks for the prompt reply.

With the new instructions (using CTRL) in the translation map screen the MIDI monitor now shows the new mapped values so I assume these new value are being transmitted via MIDI Yolk.  However, I still cannot get Cubase SX to recognise the new values, it is still recieving the original Oxygen8 CC values.  Do I need to filter out the Oxy8 MIDI data and if so can you explain how I do this?

Many thanks

After values are mapped only the final mapped values are transmitted on output ports.  If you are transmitting on a MIDI Yoke port, then it sounds to me like Cubase must be receiving the values on some other port.  Do you have Cubase set up to receive on the same numbered MIDI Yoke port?

In other words if MIDI-OX is transmitting on MIDI Yoke 1 Output, the Cubse needs to be listening to MIDI Yoke 1 input.
