Title: Pipe organ Post by orgel on Jun 21st, 2003, 11:59pm Your program is slick, but I can't figure out if it will do what I need. I have torn the vacuum-tube guts out of an old church organ, and intend to retrofit MIDI to the manuals, including the stop and preset switches, and then connect them to computers (P2/233), one for each manual, and one for the pedalboard. I would like to send the notes to the soundcard, and divert the control switches to load voices or banks, respectively. It appears that your example "patch mapping" almost does that. If I use soundfonts (which are abundantly available for pipe organ), I will need a Soundblaster card, or use a sounfont emulator with a Yamaha card (which will tax the CPU). Will I need another piece of software to get the data from MIDIOX into a Soundblaster? What is your advice? |

Actually, if you used a Soundblaster you probably would not need other software: you can attach to either or both of the SoundFont ports on the Sound Blaster directly from MIDI-OX. If you were using a Software Synth you might need a virtual MIDI port (like MIDI Yoke) to connect MIDI-OX to the Soft Synth or Soft Synth host. Still, nothing will sound as good as the original analog organ tube circuitry, bet hey, that's progress for ya :D |

Title: Re: Pipe organ Post by bruce_miles on Jul 11th, 2003, 11:23am A purpose designed organ 'console' apllication called jOrgan has just been published for use with soundfont based pipe organs. It is available for download on http://www.meiers.net/sven/index.html . This connects from your keyboard, midi console or whatever to the soundcard which of course must be a soundfont compatible card. All the controls (stops, couplers etc can be controlled on screen or via midi messages from your keyboard etc. are Also see my site at www.gbmuk.fsnet.co.uk/index.html . All freeware. Have fun -- Bruce Miles |
