Title: Port Mapping (Beta 3.7.0.355)
Post by jim_henry on Sep 9th, 2003, 3:43am
I'm pretty sure my problem is me, not the beta.  I just can't seem to get a port mapping to work.

I set up a global data mapping (Options...Data Mapping... check Turn Map On (after OK) ) and everything works as expected.  I save the mapping as a .oxm file and uncheck Turn Map On and there is no mapping as expected.

I then go to Options... MIDI Devices... and drag my .oxm file onto an input port.  I see the .oxm indented in the tree under the input port.  (I don't see anything in the MIDI Port Routing window.  Should I?)  There is no mapping of the MIDI In to Out routing.  What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Jim

Jamie,
I have exactly the same problem as Jim_Henry's.

In my experiments I'm sending the same data out to the 4 Nemesys Midi Out ports.  My maps involve program changes.

I drag a different .oxm file onto each instance of the Midi Input port (in my case it is the Delta AP Midi since I'm using an Audiophile 2496 as the midi input card).

I expect to see different program change numbers going out to the 4 different nemesys ports, but instead I see the same program numbers going to all ports.  The .oxm seems not to have an effect at all.

I've tried to figure this out before, but wasn't able to.

Jim,

In the Routing Window (Beta only), you attach an input to an output by dragging a line from the input to the output (or vice versa).  Once you have a line connection, you can right click it and choose Properties to view any Map file attachments.

When using Options | MIDI Devices... to set up routings, you won't see the result in the Routing View until after you press OK to close the MIDI Devices dialog.  After that, you should see the same routings.

Gabriel,

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but I don't see how you can send data to the Nemesys Output Ports?   Aren't they for data Output?

I would expect data only be supplied to Input ports.  Since GigaStudio has trouble with MIDI Yoke routers, you could try the Maple drivers: http://www.marblesound.com/
to get data to Nemesys Inputs.

Jamie,

Thanks for the reply.  Using Properties by right clicking on a connection line in the MIDI Port Routing to set the port mapping works!

Now for what probably should be in the beta bug forum: Port mapping does not work with Options | MIDI Devices.  There may be a clue in that if you attach a map to an input port it has no effect.  But if you then open the Properties on the connection and simply click OK, then the map will take effect.  If there is anything more I can do to help you track this down, just let me know.

Jim Henry
