Title: MIDI Mapper Equivalent for Windows 2000?
Post by brebey on May 4th, 2004, 11:04pm
I'm using MidiOx and MidiYoke to effect on Windows 2000 what used to be so simple with Windows 98's MIDI Mapper that I could teach a pigeon to do it.  It seems like overkill to install the Yoke driver, then install and configure Ox, then have Ox running, then reconfigure my applications to use the Yoke output instead of the default output, etc.  This is comparatively quite complicated.

All I need is to play MIDI files, and have all data on channels 1-9 play on the synth on the internal sound card, and have channels 10-16 play through the UART (external MIDI devices, synths, processors, effects units, lighting controllers, etc.)  This took about 20 seconds to set up in Win 98.

I've upgraded to Win 2000, and to my horror the MIDI Mapper appears to be missing.

A) Am I missing the mapper?  Is it there but just "moved" somehow so that I can't readily find it?

B) If Win 2000 in fact does not have a MIDI Mapper, then is there a simpler way to get the good ol' MIDI Mapper functionality without the complexity of Yoke and Ox?

Thanks!

Was struggling to find a nice solution, but failed.
You can run Win98 on a Microsoft Virtual PC and route midi traffic through Midi Yoke and MidiViaNet:

MIDI message ->Midi Yoke ->MidiViaNet -> Midi Mapper on Win98 on virtual pc -> mid yoke -> midiVianet -> MidiOx -> output port
