Title: Switching Instruments Post by brebey on Dec 14th, 2004, 6:20pm I use MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke together for live sequenced shows primarily to divert some channels to the internal Synth on my PC and some to outboard devices via the PC's MIDI port. This works perfectly. When I'm on my desk, though, preparing MIDI files for use, I would like to be able to take all the stuff that's normally going out through Channel 15, and make it play a drum kit on the PC's synth. (I use channel 15 to drive an outboard drum module live, but need it to play drums on the PC when I'm editing at my desk). Can anyone explain how to do this? If I simply route channel 15 to the onboard synth instead of the MIDI port, sure enough the notes play on the PC's synth, but since they are on Bank 1, Patch 1, they play a piano, which of cousre doesn't sound much like drums. Any help is appreciated. Bill Rebey |

Title: Re: Switching Instruments Post by Peter L Jones on Dec 15th, 2004, 4:49am The MIDI standard is to use Channel 10 for drums. Could you change your outboard set up? If you use Ch 10 on your onboard synth, it should give you drums by default. Alternatively, try sending Bank 128 (CC0 = 1, CC32 = 0), then Program 0 on Ch 15 before playback. |
