Title: Map Midi note "35" to note "0"
Post by Monster_Hoots on Dec 12th, 2005, 3:13am
Hi,

I'm trying to just do a simple translation.  Midi note "35" to midi note "0".  Then note "43" to note "1".  etc.  I want to use my OLD yamaha keyboard to trigger drums in Reason 2.5.  My yamaha uses note 35 as the kick, Reason uses note 0.  Snare on the Yamaha is note 43, note 1 in Reason.  I know this may sound like a simple question but I just can't figure this out. I've read this entire forum, used the help, but it just won't work.  What am I doing wrong?  My map is something like this:

*note on  35 35 **** 0 0 **
*note off  35 35 **** 0 0 **

I've tried some of the examples in the help file, such as the inverted keyboard, and that works, so I know the softare is working properly.  What am I missing...

Thanks,
Monster Hoots

Remember that many manufacturers send a Note On with 0 (zero) velocity to mean Note Off, so you must account for this situation as well.  In this case, you needn't worry about that as the desired mapping will be the same.

The map looks OK on the surface.  What part of it doesn't seem to be working?  Assuming the Map is turned on (the word MAP is highlighted on the status bar),  and that you've accounted for differences in Hex and Decimal conversions of note number, is the data in the Input monitor window not translated in the Output monitor?  In other words, whenever note 35 (23H)  comes in, you should see it go out as 0 (00H)
