Title: Mapping Roland GR 33 foot switches Post by patricksimons on Sep 9th, 2007, 2:02pm Hi There, Just in case anyone needs to know how to map foot switches like the Roland GR-33 (or other pedals which can generate any midi messages) to applications such as Guitar Rig 2 etc. using the great Midi-OX program: My objective was to use the patch change facility on the GR-33 to generate note on / note off messages, which can be used to control the Guitar Rig 2 application, which can generate events using reasonable midi messages (it doesn’t like patch change messages). To do this the patch change midi data needs to be filtered and changed before sending on to the application. One problem I found related to getting the message back into the application (which I believe Midi-Yoke does). I simply physically patched a midi out 1 on my UM 880 to midi in 2 which the Guitar Rig 2 application was listening on. I configured MIDI-OX to route midi port 4 (which the GR-33 is connected to) to midi out 1 on the UM880. After applying the filtering what ended up coming into midi port 2 was a completely different set of midi messages based on the filtering below. 1) Connect the GR-33 to a free midi port (I'm using a UM 880) 2) Use Midi-OX to route the GR-33 to another free midi port 3) Use Midi-OX monitoring facility to monitor the midi data which is generate when a foot switch is pressed. If the switches on the device is setup to transmit patch changes one of the midi lines will have a unique value, which can be used as the basis for mapping. All other messages can be removed by using the discard mapping option. 4) Set up your mapping to be something similar to the graphic below. Note the clone facility was used to generate the note off message which was needed for the application to work from a single input message. Just be careful of the order of the mappings when using the clone facility.
