I've been using Windows 95 for years with internal Roland VSC for midi channels 1-12 and MOTU midi flyer to send channels 13-16 to external midi devices, (Digitech Harmonizer, Alesis Quadreverb and Roland Guitar FX), all set up beautifully via Microsoft Midi Mapper in Windows 95.
Yesterday that laptop spat the dummy.
I had all my working programs installed on another XP laptop with Edirol UM-1ex replacing the midi flyer.
It was when I needed to access the midi mapper to distibute the 16 channels as above, I discovered, to my horror, that XP doesn't have it. :o So I had to do last nights gig with no effects. >:(
Downloaded midiox after the gig last night as suggested, hoping it would replace Microsoft's midi mapper. Spent most of today staring at the screen trying to see how it could do just that, to no avail. ???
Did tonights gig, once again with no ext effects. :-[
Could someone please, in layman's terms, explain how to do what I need to do? I NEED DIRECTIONS!!!
As I perform 7 nights per week I need this NOW! I miss my FX!

More info required...

Could you draw out what you used to have:

[source]->[midi port]->[dest]
\->[midi port]->[dest]

sort of thing, repeating and replacing "source", "midi port" and "dest" appropriately.

I use Cakewalk 9 to write all tracks in and I use the computer keyboard to write those tracks, one note at a time. Slow, I know, but it's what I know and works for me. That's not my problem. Under Options/Midi Devices/Midi Ports no Input Port is selected and the Output Port is "Midi Mapper".

On every track, in the port column, "none" is selected.
Track 1 is Channel 1 and may be a piano part.
" 2 " " 2 " is usually a bass part.
" 3 " " 3 " may be a guitar part.
" 4 " " 4 " " " " brass part.
" 5 " " 5 and may or may not be used.
" 6 " " 6 " " " " " " "
" 7 " " 7 " " " " " " "
" 8 " " 8 " " " " " " "
" 9 " " 9 " " " " " " "
" 10 " " 10 " " " " " " "
" 11 " " 11 " " " " " " "
" 12 " " 12 " " " " " " "
" 13 " " 13 and are prog changes for ext quadreverb
" 14 " " 14 " " " " " " gtr fx
" 15 " " 15 " " " " " " harmonizer
" 16 " " 16 " " note changes for harmonizer
The above is an example but is typical of ALL the songs I do.

When I'm happy with how it all sounds in Cakewalk, which I guess is the "source", I then open up Control Panel/ Multimedia/Midi/Custom Configuration/Default which is configured Channels 1 thru 12 to "Instrument" Roland VSC. Channels 13 thru 16 to "Instrument" MOTU A (midi flyer).
I guess this is "Dest"?

So, Roland VSC happily plays all the channels assigned to it and, via the MOTU Midi Flyer, the Quadreverb accepts all messages on Channel 13, and passes the midi thru to the Roland Gtr FX which accepts all messages on Channel 14 and passes the midi thru to the Digitech Harmonizer which accepts Program Changes on Channel 15 and Note Changes on Channel 16.

According to what I understand of what you'd like to know, is "source" Cakewalk, "port" midi mapper, "dest" Roland VSC for Ch 1 thu 12, and, "source" Cakewalk, "port" midimapper, "dest" MOTU A (midi flyer) for Ch 13 thru 16?

C'mon, somebody, Please! :'( I have to map this stuff somehow! :-[ Do I use Midiox or not? ??? If not, ......... what??? :-/
