Title: Need clarification on MIDI-Ox use
Post by babotas on Nov 26th, 2010, 4:32pm
Have been using MIDI-Yoke and MIDI-Ox for a couple of years quite successfully (can only praise its power and flexibility).

I've had this doubt for some time, though:

1. When I Click: Options/DataMapping,  MIDI-Ox presents me with a data map, but I have no good way of identifying which one it is (No filename identifier shows up). Now, I can figure out which one it is but I have many that I have made, some I don't use anymore..So, what rule is followed by the software so I can have the right idea as to which map Midi-Ox chooses to present?

2. When I want to create a new map, I DELETE all the rows of the map presented as said, and then create the new map, and Save it to a filename that I give it..Is this the right way to originate a new map?

3. If I LOAD an existing map and modify it, it seems to me that after modifying it, if I click OK, the changes are not saved (I am not sure), so what I do is rather click on SAVE, and select back the file name I am modifying, and that I am sure saves the modifications OK..But, so the question is, what does the OK button do?

Thanks for help afforded in this.

Yeah.  I have to admit that's not super user-friendly, but the idea is that what shows up is the current (last edited) data-map.  It is automatically saved (after pressing OK).

That sounds like the right approach to me.  When I am creating a datamap filter to test something, I look at the current map; if it's something I want to keep, I give save it to a filename that makes sense to me later (these files are tiny - save lots of them!). Then I CLEAR it, and start the new one.

The changes ARE auto-saved (persisted) as the current map after you press OK.  If you want to save a copy, go ahead and also save (export) a file.  Whenever you want a different map you have saved, you can reload it, instead of recreating it.

If you press CANCEL the changes are NOT auto-saved, and the current map remains as it was when the editor was entered.

Enjoy!
