Hello,

I'm looking for remapping my computer keyboard so that each key sounds the note i want. I've browsed the forum, read the manual, questions and answers, tried to do the same. But :

In "Midi Devices" dialog window, for Midi Inputs, i just get "In from Midi Yoke" listed from 1 to 8. There isn't USB Audio Device, or something else like that. In "Midi Outputs" Option, i get "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth", a "Midi Mapper", and "Out to Midi Yoke". I just clicked to choose "In from Midi Yoke" : 1 and "Out to Midi Yoke : 1". Is it a good choice ?

Suppose i did it right. And then ? how to convert key notes ?

Maybe my question is already answered in other threads but i don't understand how to apply in my case. I've just discovered VST Instrument recently, and spent a huge time to understand vhat is a VSTi, 2 days to understand that i need cubase to record my music, dig in internet to find a VMK and link Cubase, Kontakt Player, Midi Yoke, VMK together, etc. Do it with a dictionnay because i'm not good in english. So much pain !

Could you please help me out ? How to assign a key row : Q S D F G H K in C D E F G A B C ?

You can use MIDI OX to generate MIDI Events from key presses.

On the menu, choose "Actions", then "Keyboard". You should see the little keyboard icon on the toolbar start flashing.

When you press a key on your keyboard -- whilst you have MIDI OX as the focussed application -- MIDI Events will be generated and sent to any MIDI Output Port you have connect to the "MIDI-OX Event Port".

I've tried to choose "Actions" --> Keyboard, saw the keyboard icon flashing as you said. Press on my keyboard, i heard sounds and saw messages on "Monitor Output" Window but i don't understand what i am doing ::) How can the keys Q S D F G H J K be turned on musical notes C D E F G A B ?

To be sure i didn't make mistake during configuration. Could you please take a look on my photos ?

You have MIDI loop back. You've got MIDI OX reading in events from one end of MIDI Yoke One and writing them out again the other. You don't want to do that.

I'd suggest reading the help file for more information about MIDI OX in general.

The keyboard layout is:

Number keys: #/b keys for row below
First alpha row: note number 60 (middle C) upward
Next alpha row: #/b keys for row below
Bottom alpha row: note number 48 upward

However, note that I have a UK keyboard and Jamie - the program author - has a US keyboard I guess. If you don't have one of those, the effect might not match; I can't say.

You are right :) I got Midi Loop back. I tried again, put Midi Ox between Bome's Mouse Keyboard and Cubase. So :

- in "Midi Devices" window, Input Device = Midi Yoke 1 ; Output Device = Midi Yoke 2.

- in my Virtual Midi Keyboard, Input = None ; Output = Midi Yoke 1.

- in Cubase, Input = Midi Yoke 2.

I tested and it works fine. I succeed in using the reverse key file in MIDI OX. Thank you for your comments, for your quick answer. It helped me a lot :)

Now, i think about remaping note keys. The number key and the third row correspond to black notes of piano. Some keys like 1 , 4 and 8, etc. are dead, no sound. Have you any idea to revive them ?

Another question : where i can find a mapping table of note and note number ?

There's no appropriate black note for 1, 4 or 8, so there's nothing to revive.

Middle C is note number 60. You can work everything else out from there... or...

Yep, that's not bad and makes it clear that you can't just call middle C "C4" without explaining what you're talking about.

:) Thank you so much for your help. The chart you found for me did help. I got the notes i want even some keys are dead forever but it's ok, i have enough keys to play.
