Title: Program Change Causes Problems
Post by Longhair on May 10th, 2011, 3:28pm
I have a very basic set-up that is giving me problems.

MIDI Foot Pedal <--> Midisport 4x4 / MIDI-OX --> Line Midi Switcher

I have programmed the foot pedal to do the following:
  • Pedal 1 = Program Change 5 (Output A)
  • Pedal 2 = Program Change 6 (Output B)
  • Pedal 3 = Program Change 8 (Output C)
  • Pedal 4 = Program Change 12 (Output D)

When I have just the foot pedal plugged into the switcher, everything works without any problem. I press pedal 1, output A lights up. Press pedal 3, output C lights up...

When I add the MIDISPORT / MIDI-OX into the the mix, then when I press pedal 1, it will make clicking sounds from the relay being triggered constantly. If I press pedal 3, then it will cycle back and forth between A & C. Press a different pedal, and it stacks up.

The Event monitor shows that the commands are being constantly sent like it is stuck in a loop instead of just sending it once and terminating. The only way to stop it is to toggle close all the MIDI ports.

Could someone point me in the right direction?

Have you checked your cabling - physical and virtual - to make absolutely sure there are no loops?

I learned something new - MIDI LOOPS  :-/

In Midi-Ox, I opened up MIDI Port Routing, located the line that went from the foot switch Input Port to the foot switch Output Port, clicked on the Connection Properties (square box in middle) and unchecked Ch. 4 so it would ignore any commands coming from it.

Hopefully my experience will help another MIDI / MIDI-OX newbie  ;)
