Title: Mapping MIDI-OX or -YOKE for dummies?
Post by dschrammie on Jul 26th, 2011, 4:20pm
First, I want to apologize if this is covered somewhere already and I just didn't find it.  I put in various search terms and consistently got "Sorry, no matches".

Anyway, I'll start with my set up.  I have a Roland TD-10 connected to my Layla20 sound card via MIDI (td-10 MIDI out to Layla MIDI in), running winXP.  I'm using Cubase 4LE and triggering Superior Drummer 2.2.  The hihat doesn't seem to be operating correctly - many of the degrees of open hihat just aren't getting triggered.  So I was told I should use MIDI-OX and -YOKE to monitor the MIDI values of the hihat pedal control (CC4) and see what's coming through.

My issue is very basic...I have no idea how I'm supposed to map it so that I can see the values.  Is there a step by step somewhere for dummies like me?  It sounds like compared to how others are using it, my needs for MIDI-OX/Yoke are pretty basic, so I'm guessing this is probably really easy and I'm just kinda dumb.  I looked through the help menu on MIDI-OX and didn't see anything that looked like it explained how this mapping thing is supposed to be set up.  So, anyone have an easy step by step for me, or know where I could find it?

Again, I'm sorry if this is a repeated question that has been answered many times before.

Thank you all for any assistance/direction you can provide.

Ignore MIDI Yoke.
Close Cubase.
Run MIDI OX.
Go to Options->MIDI Devices and make sure the Layla is selected under MIDI Inputs; click OK.
Make sure the Input monitor is displayed: View->Input Monitor...

Move the hihat pedal.  You should see a stream of data in the window titled "Monitor - Input".

heh...now THAT is easy to follow directions!
I also found one other thing...the filter was set to pretty much everything...little did I understand that meant everything was getting filtered out of the display.  DUH! (see, told you I'm kinda dumb!)

Thanks for the reply!
