Title: midi hardware
Post by drugo_37 on Apr 5th, 2014, 1:12pm
I am tryng to use a little MIDI interface during travelling: a midiman "anniversary edition 2x2" but it is recognized only by ProTools 11; in the other musical softwares like Finale, Max 6 appear in the setup MIDI only the virtual ports like Midi-yoke, loopMidi, but not at all the Hardware interface, and obviously there isn't no mdi data flow in the instrument hooked with it. I use Windows 8.1 with the proper drivers.Could help me ?
Thanks drugo

Hi
Does the switch on the front have any effect?
Is it plugged into a USB3 port?
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2014/01/21/windows-8-1-usb-midi-device-works-on-usb-2-0-port-doesn-t-work-on-usb-3-0-port.aspx

Is it Win8.1 64bit or 32bit?

Can you see it in MidiOx?
Can you see it in the device manager (right click on Start button)?

Hi Breath
-the switch on the front have no effect
-it's plugged into a USB2 port
-my O.S. is  Win8.1 64bit
-I can't see the interface in MidiOx menù options -> midi devices (but when I work in the rack of my laboratory that have an Esi 8 and a RME Fireface UCX with a midi module, both are recognized)
-I can't see it in the device manager
-I can see it in the Control Panel and right clicking on Property item of its icon evrything looks like OK

Hi drugo

Although the interface is class compliant (MS supplies the driver with Win8.1) there were a few problems in past versions of Windows class compliant drivers.

It would be good to have the correct Win8.1 64bit drivers. I have read that the Win7 ones are different.

There is quite a bit of noise on various forums where Midi interfaces worked under Win8.0, but fail under 8.1

Again, it may mean that there needs to be a Win8.1 driver.
I can't see an 8.1 driver at the M-Audio web site and there is chat on their forum that everyone is still waiting for it to arrive (at lease for the 4x4).

MS talks about an error 43 here
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2013/11/26/why-does-my-usb-device-work-on-windows-8-0-but-fail-on-windows-8-1-with-code-43.aspx
and has a message tracker program to download on the same page.

This may be useful.

Hope that helps

Hi,
it returns me the same error number 43 so, it looks like to me, the only thing to make is to hope and wait for a new edition of drivers prope for Windows 8.1. I posted the same question to the technical support of M-Audio; if they will answer me, I will share it with this blog.
Thanks drugo

Hi Breath
after having hopelessly waited an answer by M-Audio (they gave assurance within 72 hours!!!) I tried to remove every driver for Midisport 2 x 2 "Anniversary edition" (in your previous answer you told that this interface should have been "class compliant"): incredibly Midisport 2 x 2 appeared in every midi setup of all my musical software: Finale, Max 6, ProTools 11 just as in virtual midi ports as Midi-Ox or loopMIDI
Thank you very much

One of the problems with Win and USB is that if you take your Midi interface and pop it in a different port Win installs a new driver for that USB port.

So what can happen is that if you have a couple of Midi interfaces, as every bit of gear these days has a USB Midi interface built in, and you swap them about, your register fills with Midi interfaces.

On Win XP you were allowed only 10. So if you kept forgetting what Midi interface went into what USB port you could run out of Midi devices in the PC very quickly.

Did your fix solve your problem?

All the best
