Title: Using Midi-Ox with Korg SQ-1 and Volca FM
Post by flament on Feb 26th, 2017, 9:44am
Hello,
Anyone know if it would be possible to have Korg SQ-1 to control Volca FM velocity through midi-ox ?
I would like to have SQ-1 Row A & B to control Note & Velocity respectively.
I know that Volca FM's Velocity is recognized on CC #41 and I tried without success to map Midi Channel 2 of SQ-1 (Row B) to that CC using midi-ox with Note from channel 1 with its fixed velocity (v=64) translated to channel 2 and CC #41 using value 1 (note) to velocity value.
In Port Routing, SQ-1 input is connected to SQ1MIDIOUT output.
No change in Velocity and the tempo is dragged down like x4. Any idea ?
If you are familiar with the SQ-1, another way may be to reassigned SQ-1's CV Duty to Velocity ? Thanks for the help.

PS : I saw a video where it could be done with a volca bass using a Midi Solutions Event Processor Plus. So, I suppose it should be possible.

Since I found my way out, here is how it goes :
input : SQ1 / output : SQ1 (and not SQ1MIDIOUT, as I did)
when input match channel 2, note on, any note
set output to channel 1, event type ctrl, ctrl # 41, amount between 1 and 127 for exemple (but SQ1's notes evolve by default between 49 & 108 so velocity cannot go full range)
Use input value 1(pull)
Like this, you can use mode 3 & 4 os SQ1 sequencer to have row B controlling the velocity of the note played on row A, yet, delayed of one note.
To use velocity on modes 1, 2 or random, only change the input channel to 1 and play with delay to add some false randomness to the shift of velocity.
