Title: Remapping to random GM instrument?
Post by xhevahir on Mar 28th, 2020, 10:03pm
Hi, I'm using ear training programs and have been frustrated with the lack (in some of them) of a feature for randomizing the MIDI patch during playback. So I'm wondering if there's an easy way of using MIDI Ox to remap each MIDI note event from one GM patch (like Acoustic Piano) to some other, random GM patch. Thank you.

I'm not sure there is an 'easy' way to do this in MidiOx as there is no random function in the Data mapping.
You can take a note on message and convert it to a patch change and 'Pass original value on (clone)' creating the two messages needed.
So you could have different sounds but they would be linked to key value(pitch) which would make for a 'clue' in the ear training which you perhaps don't want.

To do it you would need to use the "scripting" function in MidiOx and program it yourself. (check the Help for scripting details )

Bome's Classic might have a random function, but I'm not sure.

Hope that helps
Stay well
Ryoce
