Title: Profile/Snapshot files location+"maybe a bug" Post by MidiOXisJesus on Apr 27th, 2021, 2:27am 1st: midiOX is just astonishing. Irreplaceable, genius. Devs, YOU ARE MY PERSONAL JESUSES. It allowed me to remap input and output lights like a wizard on the APC 40 using Traktor FULLY REMAPPED FROM ZERO with 4 decks running. Given that, I have some issues cos I don't really understand how midiOX works. My setup: Windows 7 Akai APC40 + Akai AMX + loopMIDI (virtual interface manager, 4virtual ports used to get in and out midiOX, not really relevant, bit still) The problem: Depending on factors that I don't understand (seems randomly, or when I connect the AMX on a different usb port) midiOX randomly assign a new number to the AMX device. Inside the "Save profile" generated file, the AMX is listed as In1=1- AMX Out1=1- AMX But, seemingly random, sometimes it become 2- AMX, 3- AMX, 4- AMX... ALWAYS GOING UP NUMBER. I always make sure to boot the machine with all midi devices connected and running, but if for some reason, on midiOX startup, the AMX is not recognised(often), at the next startup will change number, going up 1 number. (I'm running now on 7- AMX, after Windows reinstall, so it would be like 18- AMX by now). I solved the problem having always ready a "Saved profile", I open the profile, I change the AMX number in the saved profile, according to the active midiOX running interface new number, I save the file, I import that updated file as new imported profile with new number, and this will do the trick, without manually change all rerouting settings. so, questions: -How can I re-assing the correct AMX number, when midiOX decides that today is AMX8 instead of 7, from the midiOX interface, without importing manually edited profiles, and restore the previous rerouting settings. Or prevent it from changing the number forever, better! -MOST IMPORTANT: I spent hours among midiOX files, I can't find the active profile file anywhere. Instead of importing a saved profie, I can change the number in the current one, but where the profile file and the snapshot file are stored? can't find them! Generally speaking, I'm just upset with myself not being able to edit the current settings txt file, lmao. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm unable to find anywhere the midiOX actual config files, they don't go away if I reinstall midiOX and clean the system from all temp folders I know of, I'm stocked with "7- AMX" until I reinstall Windows!!! ---- PLEASE, TEACH ME HOW TO COMPLETELY WIPE OUT EVERY CONFIG FILE AND DO A COMPLETELY FRESH INSTALLATION OF midiOX, I'm not able, and I tried for days. --------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a huge deal, cos all the "MIDI port routing" settings and "Port Mapping" settings (under "MIDI devices") tab, simply go blank/default, and I lose all settings, which are really complicated to re-do on the fly, because AMX and APC40 share 1 channel in common, and I have to re-route that channel via 4in-out ports of loopMIDI to do the magic, 10channels to reroute, with lights outputs on bot devices, big work, can't do it by memory, I must follow a huge list of commands I saved to re-setup midiOX settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Stupid question: I don't understand the difference between profile and snapshot. I always save also snapshot backups, but never used, and I don't know why I keep doing it, cos I don't know what a snapshot is, and a profile import just magically set up everything as it should be. I need to understand what a snapshot is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -TL/DR which can solve my main problem is: Why and how to prevent midiOX from changing the number to 2- AMX, 3- AMX, 4- AMX ... in the profile settings, and wipe clean all the routing settings? What can be the cause? What I can do to stop it happening? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks in advance for your support, your patience, and most of all, your astonishing work in creating this incredible tool. I'm serious when I say that I was unaware that such magic tricks were possible in midi rerouting, you have coded A MASTERPIECE and u are geniuses. Without midiOX, I couldn't do anything I'm doing today, I rerouted the best midi devices I can dream of, in the best setup I always dream to have, and today is real, thanks of you all, simple as that. Geniuses!!! Thankyou! Much love, and blessing! |

Title: Re: Profile/Snapshot files location+"maybe a Post by Jamie OConnell on Apr 29th, 2021, 4:24pm The 'active profile' and other settings are stored in the registry. Each instance of MIDI-OX running at the same time will get new profile settings. I will guess that that is what is happening to you. Regedit this: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MIDI-OX\MIDI-OX 32" and all the keys and values below that. Each profile is auto numbered: Profile 1, Profile 2 ... etc. You can probably safely delete any registry profiles you don't want, but you'll need to make sure not to launch multiple copies of MIDI-OX at once. -------------------------------------------------- Snapshots are simply a record at the moment in time of all the current MIDI controllers settings (and program changes) that have passed through MIDI-OX. Probably not that useful for what you want to do. |

Title: Re: Profile/Snapshot files location+"maybe a Post by MidiOXisJesus on May 3rd, 2021, 5:49pm Nice, thanks so much, this is really helpful. I'll probably be able to edit the registry next time the input/output number changes for the AMX, generally speaking really good to understand how settings are stored. BTW I'm sill unsure on why the AMX seems to be assigned with a new number, only on some instances (seems related to changing the usb port I connect it to, not really sure anyway). I never run more than 1 instance of midiOX at the time, I'm pretty paranoid in the boot sequence of programs before playing, and I think I never did it. Maybe I double-clicked it sometimes without noticing? Maybe for some reason, sometimes, right after boot, Windows spawn 2 instances in 1 click, cos is still lagging in boot sequence? Can be one of the 2 I have only 1 single profile saved in the registry as profile-1, and nothing else, so is profile-1 which is updated with a new AMX number. Anyway, not a huge deal, I got multiple fixes now. Thanks for help! really appreciated. |
