Title: PC keyboard to MIDI rebinds
Post by thecuckoo on Feb 25th, 2026, 9:55am
Hello, please help me with rebinding PC keys to MIDI signals. I absolutely don't understand how "data mapping" works and can't find anything to help.
My goal is to rebind/bind:
1. Letter "/" rebind to "octave up", by default it's binded to note E.
"/"'s Data1 = 64, idk what is that since "E note" is 64 as well as "Shift(which is sustain)". Data2 = 100 - probably velocity?
Octave up/down i have no binds at all by default, only F2-F9 are choosing parcitular octave.
2. Some keys like "\","backspace","del"... just for noteOn+noteOff.
3. Maybe rebind sustain which is on "L or R shift" by default, to "space" or just add space as another option. Again its Data1=64 like E note, Data2=127 and event:CC...
While going "data mapping" i see "event type" and 2 values, and i absolutely have no clue what they mean and how to use them, please help to understand.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

"Data Mapping" in Midi Ox is about Midi data coming in, being changed to a different message and then being sent out again.

So it's not what you want for PC's QWERTY keyboard to Midi, which is what I think you are trying to do.

In the Help menu select INDEX and type "Keyboard" and you will find lots of stuff that should help you.
In particular you should look at "Configuration" where it talks about a "KeyMap".

If you're still stuck, post again and I'll go though it with you.

All the best
Royce

No problem! Yea you are right, that's what i wanted to do. I found what you describing, there is really keyboard configuration that can be changed in KeyNote.ini file. Unfortunately as i see there is just keymap of pitches, it's possible to unbind any of them or use that have value "-1", but not add new ones or change other binds that are not pitches (sustain, octaves). For octaves tho, seems like there is option of choosing particular octave with F2-F9 buttons, but no function of going octave up/down with any key. And no rebind of them. If that's correct nothing to do then but still helpful and thanks for an answer!
