Title: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by MrM on Jul 8th, 2005, 11:20am Hi, I can get MIDI OX to work with various plugins, but I can not get sounds coming out of the SFZ when triggered with my DD-55 electronic drumkit. The MIDI in is received by my sequencer (Logic) but no sound is heard. I've tried setting all to channel 10, then all to channel 1, but still; no sound is heard. I've tried delaying the note of with 1000 ms, and still no sound. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks, MrM |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by Peter L Jones on Jul 8th, 2005, 2:54pm What are you using MIDI OX for? e.g. Are you using MIDI Yoke and MIDI OX together for routing? or Monitoring? Have you tried running sfz.exe directly (standalone)? What version of sfz, by the way? (Latest from www.rgcaudio.com?) Run just MIDI OX and open your MIDI In port. Get the MIDI Input monitor up. Hit a pad on the DD55. What does the monitor say? (Specifically, under CHAN and NOTE and EVENT.) What have you got loaded into sfz? If it's a drum kit, does it have anything set up on the notes the DD55 is sending? |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by MrM on Jul 9th, 2005, 5:27pm Peter, thanks for taking the time to answer! I use MIDI Yoke and OX to change the outcoming MIDI notes into other notes (so any E2 becomes a G#3 for example). Order: DD-55 -> YOKE -> OX -> Sequencer I am running the latest SFZ version, 1.97, I have soundfonts loaded into it. Both the standalone version as the VST version (inside a VST host) don't respond to the DD-55. All is OK when I use a MIDI keyboard. So most likely the problem is inside the DD-55? I've tried running the setup without the Yoke and OX; DD-55 straight into my sequencer, and the results were similar. I was only hoping that there was a special trick / map. Regards, MrM |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by MrM on Jul 11th, 2005, 3:56pm Hi, I've forgot that part :-[ example: Timestamp IN PO STA D1 D2 CHAN NOTE EVENT 00018FA0 10 2 99 2A 48 10 F# 2 Note On 00018FA1 10 2 99 2A 00 10 F# 2 Note Off Sometimes the timestamp of the Note Off is exactly the same as the Note On timestamp, other times it just differs 1 value (the LSB is 1 more, no more then 1) |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by Peter L Jones on Jul 12th, 2005, 2:39pm That's short :D Have you tried just filtering the Note Off events out of the stream with MIDI OX? (The rest of this is waffle...) If you're using soundfonts, it's quite possible (and likely) that the percussion has not been set up to trigger correctly (and still requires a held note to sound properly). Annoying, as it is possible to avoid this with a soundfont. So, if you use a keyboard to trigger F#2, for example, does the percussion sound carry on after you release the note? |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by MrM on Jul 12th, 2005, 5:10pm There is one strange thing: when I use SFZ it can't be triggered by the DD-55. But I can get it to work if I do this: 1 - I record the DD-55 notes using a GM VST (Roland's VSC) 2 - I go into my sequencer, select all notes, and 'lenghten' them. Then they can trigger the SFZ. So I guess the Note off is followed too guickly after the Note On. How would I delay the Note Off Value? I've tried doing it by selecting all Notes Off values and delay them by 1000 ms, still no result. It must be my lack of understanding HOW to do this. Could some kind soul type the info here: Match 'Note Off' channel any and then no ghost note and delay some amount ; that was what I did, what did I forget or do wrong? EDIT I just read your message, after I posted the above. I'll try cathing all Note On's and remap them, and catch all Note Off's and just delay them, if that doesn't work I'll just map them to some high note with no drum sound. At least I think I'm getting in the right direction. If this works I'll be so happy and thankful! |

Title: Re: Settings for SFZ and DD-55 Post by MrM on Jul 29th, 2005, 7:48pm I've not find a way to 'lengthen' the notes is OX. But some things have changed in the mean time; I've got hold of the BFD demo in the CM89 issue of Computer Music magazine. So I'll be drumming with BFD now. |
