Title: serial rs232 <+> midi interchanger new approch Post by vsmvdd on Dec 1st, 2006, 12:18am Hi im new to this forum although having used these products for many years... thankyou! using midiox yoke is fine for machines with easy interfaces but most people with a laptop esp the older ones and for stage and live work even some machines will have usb 1 even usb 2 isnt so good for multichain device and give 10 of miliseconds latency and input simultanious midi streams most of us have a spare com port so i made a rs232 to midi converter the right way i simply use two micro controller cores to do the job of converting 38,400 baud to 31250 baud instead of one micro always being tied up processing midi out or in it forgets the other if you see what i mean but the cpu uart doesnt and is basicaly the same thing as a midi port so you can see it was older interfaces were the problem not drivers but hardware thinking this is known as a paket lossy system and this interface fixes it totaly i notice 1ms latency driving sereral devices and also midi input via keyboard and also input addressing a software synth in the midi out machine from a laptop running a .mid file i used the roland drivers and disabled multiport i have plans to add this as many makers use it maybe also rework the scheme to allow for 64 channels via serial as 4 separate out sockets and 4 ins merged look at this site i will move this project to a band i know domain and let them use it as they asked for it so,,,, http://www.edaboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=206631#733487 look here and its free so enjoy....! look thru the pages attached archive and download the app to view the schematics the main design graphic that shows is the high end version the device can be broken into in or out only and built in 1hr using vero board if you need any help or advice simeon.webber@ntlworld.com ......... msn passport email vsmvdd@edaboard.com ......... email box youll find that you can use linux or windows drivers ALL the drivers i tried worked first time from most makers sites as did the rest of the electronics and flash system a pleasure to build this project from start to finish |
