Title: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by oqtoe on Jan 16th, 2002, 4:42pm I'm just starting of with synching 2 audio applications together. I installed Midi Yoke fine. And now am trying to sync Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync together for playback. I can't figure out how to do this. I want so when I press 'play' on the master application the slave applicaiton will play at the same time and tempo. I can't figure out how to do this correctly. I've read the FAQ's on the page clearly. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by Jamie OConnell on Jan 17th, 2002, 2:33am I recommend that you download and install MIDI-OX so that you can see what data Reason and FruityLoops send and receive. You can also use the MIDI-OX sync Window to test and view transmitted data. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by Jamie OConnell on Feb 27th, 2002, 11:41am MIDI-OX has both an MTC Window and a MIDI Sync Window that you can use to check if the applications are sending the correct sync. Quote:
Same tempo implies MIDI Sync. You would attach MIDI Yoke 1 as Output in the Master application, and MIDI Yoke 1 as the Input to the Slave application. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by oqtoe on Feb 27th, 2002, 11:50pm This is so dam difficult for something that I was told was going to be very simple. I'm not sure what Midi-Ox is supposed to tell me. And how is it suppose to help with getting midi yoke working so I can sync 2 programs. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by Jamie OConnell on Feb 28th, 2002, 4:22pm Nice attitude! I don't know who told you this would be easy, but they were obviously lying ::) Syncing 2 separate 3rd party applications together is a rather complex task, particularly when you are adding another 3rd party virtual driver into the equation. You might be able to make it easier, though, if you follow a few simple guidelines: A) change your attitude: we don't create freeware just to receive abuse. B) Try to actually describe your problem specifically instead of just saying "it doesn't work". Mention what you've tried and describe what happens. C) Go off to the various 3rd party's web-sites and find out how other users are dealing with these issues. We can't afford to own all the software that people are asking about -- I have no idea whether Reason or Fruity Loops even does MIDI Sync! And you still haven't said which application will be Master or Slave? D) RTFM E) If it's not in the manual, ask Reason and/or Fruity Loops tech. support for help. The way MIDI Sync works is by sending MIDI Clock messages, 0xF8, down the MIDI wire at a particular rate. The rate determins the tempo. When you press Start on the Master application a MIDI start (0xFA) should be generated. Stop is 0xFC and continue is 0xFB. Using that information, you can use MIDI-OX to check the data. Attach the master (Reason or Fruity Loops?) to MIDI Yoke 1 OUT. Attach MIDI-OX input to MIDI Yoke 1 IN. Open View | MIDI Sync... in MIDI-OX. Turn on MIDI Sync in the Master. You should see F8 clocks start to come through in MIDI-OX monitor, and the tempo in the MIDI Sync window will update to the received tempo. Press Start on the Master. You should see FA come along in the monitor and the MIDI Sync window will start incrementing. Press Stop on the Master -- you should see FC come along and the MIDI Sync window will stop updating. Once you see this working, you could close MIDI-OX and substitute the slave (Reason or Fruity Loops?). Attach the slave MIDI In to MIDI Yoke 1. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by oqtoe on Feb 28th, 2002, 8:16pm You miss-judged my comment. I'm certainly not 'bad-mouthing' MIDI-OX. Frankly I don't even know how to use it yet. I just find syncing different types of 3rd party programs together impossible. I haven't been able to sync anything with midi yoke yet for some reason. This could be because the programs I'm sync can't be synced together or something I'm doing wrong. The only syncing I've been able to do is between Reason & Cubase with ReWire. This worked because ReWire is incorporated into those programs. Anyway's, I appreciate all you help despite lack of knowledge with MIDI and syncing. |

What happens when you try? |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by oqtoe on Mar 1st, 2002, 8:37pm Well nothing at all. I'll set up the input, output's a midi yoke junction 1 then I'll set the slave to wait of a signal and then press play on the mast program but only the mast program starts. |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by oqtoe on Mar 3rd, 2002, 6:48pm I finally got Fruity Loops and Reason to play with MIDI Yoke. Thanks for your help. But now the only problem is Reason (Slave) plays slower then Fruity Loops (Master). Is there a way to fix this so them play at the exact same tempo? |

Title: Re: Reason 1.01 & Fruity Loops Sync? Post by Jamie OConnell on Mar 4th, 2002, 2:49am Well that's good that you're syncing -- it's a start anyway. If you look at the MIDI-OX MIDI Sync Window, you'll see that you can set the Meter and Timebase as well as the tempo. Although you aren't using MIDI-OX as part of the equation, it can be instructive. You will need to somehow configure the Master and slave so that they agree on the MIDI timebase (I will guess that they both will be using 4/4 meter). |
