Title: Anyone got a SIMPLE guide to MIDI Yoke/MIDI-Ox? Post by CompletelyLost on Aug 10th, 2006, 3:23pm Although I have had Yoke and Ox installed for several months and kind of got them working once, the user guide (help file) is as clear as mud to me and I am very frustrated! I just do not understand how to configure these programs. All I want to do is connect an onscreen virtual piano keyboard (MIDI out) to Finale PrintMusic (MIDI In). - Do I NEED MIDI-Ox? - How do I configure MIDI Yoke? (It's a low-level driver that doesn't have any menu or interface.) - Just a simple, step-by-step walk-thru, guys! That's all I ask! I'll even uninstall and reinstall the programs so I can get the original defaults back. - These programs are, I'm sure, extremely powerful utilities, but they ain't easy to use! |

MIDI Yoke: it's just a low level driver, it does have a config panel that lets you choose how many ports you want it to support (on Win9x) but the defaults should be okay. How to use it: 1) Install 2) In Virtual Piano Keyboard, set the MIDI Out to "Junction 1". 3) In Finale PrintMusic, set the MIDI In to "Junction 1". It's that's easy. |

Title: Re: Anyone got SIMPLE guide to MIDI Yoke/MIDI-Ox? Post by CompletelyLost on Aug 12th, 2006, 11:07am Ah, thanks for that, Peter! Curiously, it DOES work between the virtual piano and Cakewalk, but Finale PrintMusic fails to respond. That is, I have configured FPM in exactly the way you describe, as I also did in Cakewalk, but whereas Cakewalk starts displaying notes I play, Finale stays stumm. (I didn't have both Finale and Cakewalk loaded at the same time, by the way.) Why would I need MIDI-Ox if MIDI Yoke does what I need? Finally, you mentioned some configuration utility for MIDI Yoke. Where is it? MIDI Yoke got installed, then seemed to disappear! I don't have any mention of it in my menu structure or on the desktop. However, I have now proved that it does work! (With Cakewalk, at least.) Anyone know why Finale does not respond to MIDI input via MIDI Yoke? Cheers! |

MIDI Yoke only acts as a virtual MIDI cable. MIDI OX lets you do other stuff... like see what MIDI channel messages are being transmitted on... Quote:
I'm not running Win98 (haven't for years) - it's somewhere in the System control panel thing... |
