Title: Midi to Keystroke Project Post by williamsharkey on Dec 7th, 2007, 4:35pm Looking for a helper/mentor or collaborator. Goal: Use musical keyboard (midi controller) as a fully functional replacement to standard keyboard. I did not find an existing project that does this- thought it is possible that one exists. I already have created an executable that when run from dos, can simulate computer keystrokes. It is built off of the autohotkey.scripting language. Example usage: >c:\key.exe "this is typing on your screen!" Is it possible, using the tools presented at midi ox, to send midi information to key.exe , so that information is sent to the screen? If that is possible, I am confident that I can create logic in key.exe to map Midi Information => Keystrokes. To motivate your help on this issue, I present the reasons why such a program would be useful. 1. Less clutter on some peoples desks. 2. Help people become more proficient at musical keyboard. 3. Force musicians to explore unlikely patterns of input. 4. Give the curious an interesting problem: how would you map midi data to keystrokes? - There are many ways to map the data when you allow for chord combinations, so there will be a new challenge to see what the preferred mapping may be. I am not familiar with midi ox yet, and appricate all advice. |
