Title: MIDI over TCP/IP network using MIDI-OX Scripting
Post by Lynn on Mar 27th, 2002, 10:49pm
I have finally succeeded in getting two MIDI-OX scripts running on each of two separate computers, connected by a LAN to exchange midi messages via "sockets".  The midi-in data coming into MIDI-OX on machine A can be routed to the MIDI-OX output ports on machine B and vice versa. The respective MIDI-OX scripts on each computer communicate with each other over the LAN.  Will also work over the internet -- but network timing delays make playing music totally impractical.

Biggest problem is BLOCKING and real-time timing.  TCP/IP packeting causes the midi messages to get slightly delayed and then arrive in spurts.  But it works fine for sending program changes to sound cards installed on a remote computer.

That's pretty interesting!  I theorized that it was possible, but didn't have time or equipment to actually set it up. Cool!  8)
