hi

I have the following MIDI hardware devices:

- Roland PC-180 (not USB)
- Kenton Control Freak
- Kenton Plugstation (really a hardware synthesiser)

At the moment I have 2 MIDI ports (Audiophile and sw1000) in my PC.

I have the keyboard attached to the sw1000 and the Control Freak to the Audiophile.

From a "midi" point of view, would it be better to attach these 2 devices in series into the sw1000 (Roland--->CF---->sw1000 MIDI In) or in parallel through 2 different ports (as they are currently) ?

Is there a higher risk of sending too much data down a single cable ?

Also, I may have to do this anyway soon cause I'm getting a Hammerfall 9652 (no midi) and space is tight so I may have to ditch the audiophile.

If there is a potential problem doing this, is there a workaround ?

I think either configuration will work in your case, provided you don't need to send SysEx info to the CF Input port. I wouldn't guess that you'll have MIDI density problems with two input devices on one wire (or even 3 or 4 devices).

The only real advantage of two separate MIDI ports is isolation: MIDI-OX can tell you which port a message is coming from, you can map different ports differently (MIDI-OX 6.5), etc.
