Title: Controlling Live 4 with my PS2 Game Controller :) Post by supster on Dec 13th, 2004, 4:18pm ;D I believe I have everything I need to turn my PS2 Sony Dualshock controller - your everyday Playstation controller with the two XY sticks - into a MIDI Contoller - PS2 Dualshock - PS2 --> USB Adaptor - Livesticks - small Japanese program that converts joy input to MIDI output - MIDI Yoke - MIDI OX Now: - Win XP immediately sees the PS2 as a "HID Compliant game controller" and "USB Human Interface Device" - Livesticks sees the controller - MIDI Yoke installed fine, I can: a. set out port from Livesticks to MIDI Yoke, and b. set in port from MIDI Yoke into Live ...but ... when I try and map from the controller to Live MIDI controllers, Live is not seeing any output from the device. Q: - Has anyone done anything like this here? If so, am I on the right track or do you have a better way - Do I need MIDI OX in this equation and where am I going wrong if any ... tia |

In other words: a. set out port from Livesticks to MIDI Yoke, and b. set in port from MIDI Yoke into MIDI-OX. If you see controller information coming in OK, you should be able to output to another MIDI Yoke port and then Input to Live (is that Ableton Live or what?). What are you ultimately trying to control? |

Thanks for the reply ... I did this ... I set the outport for Livesticks to Yoke 1, and read the input from Yoke 1 in MIDI OX ... on a data monitor .. Saw midi data streaming thru Next, set the outport from MIDI OX to Yoke 2, and listened to Yoke 2 inside Live .. (yes this is Ableton 4.04) Ableton Live is not seeing it. ie when I try to map any of the buttons to a parameter inside Live, it is not recieving any data. Do I gather from what your saying that in this case .. ideally ... - Livesticks should see the PS2 controller in windows (it does) - Livesticks should out to Yoke 1 (or whichever) and - Ableton Live should be able to monitor this midi data coming in on Yoke 1 and MIDI OX is not really necessary in this scenario? Just to be clear: Livesticks (no relation to Ableton) converts the joystick data to MIDI data, and should enable 16 buttons and 4 analog directions as a MIDI controller seen inside a sequencer. So I should be able to fire clips, play notes, play scenes, and use both XY controllers in Ableton live Ideally |

Title: Re: Controlling Live 4 with my PS2 Game Controller Post by supster on Dec 15th, 2004, 2:51am Ok looks like I'm on the right track .. MIDI Yoke transmits the data to Ableton fine, had a tip on another program called XikStick that was simpler and easier to configure than LiveSticks (the japanese program) Got all 16 buttons up and running, I believe the XY''s are doable too, I just need to mess with it. Great stuff, def. worth doing ;) |
