Title: Controling emu module via sysex
Post by Fluxburn on Apr 13th, 2005, 7:18am
Hey I have my emu xlead and I have never programmed because it is on my rack and has a tiny screen. I want to edit the unit via my computer to make patches. I have cubase sx, but that really has no way to save sysex commands.

Unless I am misinformed and sysex data is just generally inquired as midi controller data. Then I could use the generic remote to program the sysex, but it doesn't seem to have a place for sysex in the generic remote.

So does anyone else control a synth purely from sysex and use midi ox to help them. I don't think midi ox is the tool I need really, it might help with routing but I really don't know where to look for this tool I might need.

You are looking for a program commonly known as an Editor-Librarian.  A program such as this must be written to understand the unique System Exclusive messages associated with the device.   SysEx is not general MIDI controller data, but specific to a particular device.

I hear emagic's sounddriver is the best Librarian program for this task.

Last year Apple bought Emagic and immediately canceled all PC products, so I wouldn't expect to see future updates for Sound Diver.
