Hi all! I was reading on the MIDIOX forums and elsewhere that you can filter out note offs from MIDI controllers using MIDIOX! I was hoping that this would solve the problem of my YAMAHA DD-55 Digital Drum Pad Device not triggering samples in Propellerhead Reason's software NN-XT sampling module! I have tried a ton of different settings on the NN-XTs front panel in the hopes that somehow I would be able to get my electronic drum pads to audibly trigger samples in Reason's NN-XT! Nothing seems to work though! I have even called YAMAHAs electronic drum department so I could discuss this matter personally with them! They said that other people had called and complained about having similar problems getting the DD-55 to trigger samples from software instrument/sampling devices such as the NN-XT and that they were unable to help them! I was told by other people on the Propellerhead User Forum and a YAMAHA drum department tech that the problem of the DD-55 not triggering drum samples in the sampler was due to the fact that the gate time on the DD-55 was too short! Unfortunately there is no way to adjust gate time on the DD-55!

I was supposing that I could use MIDI-OX to help solve my sample triggering problem as I read somewhere on the Propellerhead message boards that it is possible to use MIDI-OX in tandem with a sequencer such as Reason to eliminate or filter out note-off messages from MIDI controllers such as the DD-55 before they are sent via MIDI to a sampler such as Reason's NN-XT! The question that bothers me is what steps should I take in order to get this to happen? I only saw one other topic on the MIDI-OX forums that discussed the YAMAHA DD-55 and MIDI-OX! The person had a similar problem as me but was unable to solve the problem!

BTW...If you think you can solve my problem but are unsure of a minor detail that I have explained...please do not hesitate to ask what it is that you find confusing! Also I have MIDI Yoke NT and MIDI-OX! I am pretty sure that it will be necessary to have both MIDI Yoke NT and MIDI-OX in order to use MIDI-OX in tandem with an external MIDI device and a sequencer such as Reason! That is why I state this beforehand!

That one explains what may be happening (short notes / gate time, as you say) and outlines the way to set things up (although it failed to fix the problem, apparently).

That one shows someone who seems to be using the DD-55 to control Sonar.

Now, about fixing it. First off, I'd suggest junking the Note Off messages entirely and seeing if that works... Otherwise, use a mapping that does very little apart from applying a few 1000 milliseconds of delay to the original message (don't know if that's possible -- which might be what killed the idea in the first thread linked).

Umm...Can you please explain specifically how I can "junk the note off messages"! I am a newbie to MIDI-OX and find this program to be a lil complicated!

Take a read through this thread (http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=query;action=display;num=1114965311) as a starting point on how to get MIDI OX and MIDI Yoke integrated into your set up.

For a more in depth discussion, there's a PDF file referenced from this thread (http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=query;action=display;num=1125073694).

Once you've got the basics set up so you can see data flying through MIDI OX, you can use the Options->Data Mapping facility to set up a mapping to convert the Note Offs (and probably Note Ons with velocity zero, to be safe) to something else unused.
