Title: DX7 Batterie low - how ot Dump Sound Data to PC
Post by fussnote on Sep 17th, 2008, 6:17am
Hi !

greetings from germany. I succesfully installed midiox (great!!) but i do not know how to dump my sound data w/ MIDIOX from old DX7 YAMAHA (the old / first one!!). Batterie is low soi need to safe my data and i do not have DX-RAM at the moment.

I am using TASCAM 144 USB Interface and the DX7 is already sending MIDI Data to MIDIOX while playing or using pitchbend and mod.

Maybe somebody can help ?

Olaf

The manual is here:

(I guess there may be a German version, too!)

You need to do the nearest thing to an all memory SysEx bulk dump that the DX-7 supports.

In MIDI OX, you can receive, save, load and transmit SysEx dumps (it doesn't know anything about your DX-7, though).

The SysEx tool is accessed through "View->SysEx..." and, once there, the "SysEx" menu contains the "Receive" command, that you should use before telling the DX-7 to send.  If I remember correctly, the data will arrive in the "Display" window, so you use the menu for that window to save the data.

Once you've changed the battery, you can load the data back into MIDI OX - using the Command Window menu.  However, before you go ahead and try sending anything two points:
1) The DX-7 may need to be told to be ready to receive - check the manual
2) The speed that your PC sends the data may be too fast for the DX-7 - be prepared to use the "SysEx->Configure..." menu to adjust the "Low Level Output Buffers" and "Delay between buffers": I use 64 / 512 / 24 in the three relevant boxes
Once you're ready to send, use the Command Window menu entry.  Check the DX-7 manual to see how (whether) it confirms success.  Again: be prepared to adjust the send timings.
