Hello All,

Bit of a newbie here ... Ive got this Roland U220 and the factory presets are gone ( theres loads of this problem scattered throught the internet... which makes owners start pulling their hair out in frustration).. ok thats not the problem.

Roland have as part of their support products has a factory preset file (.mid) so i down loaded that and fired that onto the midiox midibar to send ... alls well on the midiox side but on the roland side it said midi buffer full... Any ideas guys??

On the roland it can recieve sysex but the factory file is .mid how do i convert to sysex file

Roland had a factory card but these seem to be like the holy graill and cant be found on the planet

The whole thing is driving me insane... help would be much appreciated.

Ok no takers ....

Right i can send the file but the u220 says midi buffer full...... so what setting on the midiox can i alter so that the buffer doesnt get clogged up??

It is a Midi file full of sysex messages and they can be slowed down by loading the file into a DAW (Sonar, Live, Cubase etc) and slowing the tempo. This will allow the U220 time to write the data to memory.

OR convert the file to sysex, use MidiOx and increase the Delay between sysex messages: View/Sysex/Sysex/Configure.
Set it high , dump the data and then reset it.

If you can't convert the file let me know and I'll create a sysex file for you.

And ill have a go at that :) The .mid file is on the roland website

Thanks so much. Ive already got a u110 ( the one that most people say "oh go for the u220 its a much better machine")this behaves itself and doesnt give me grief besides for the last 6 years ive got it all tweaked up. The u220 i got a month ago.... the internal battery was dead as a nail in it so i changed it and was just needing this factory setting thingie

Any road ... Im rambling again ... so thank you and look forward to the sysex file

Hi
I could only find a file called "U220orig.mid" on the UK Roland FTP site.
I created the sysex file and had a look. It looks corrupted.
There should be names of the patches and they are missing.

I checked the U-20 file as well and that should be the same but it is a different size and has no text names.

I sent you the file by email.

The sysex file done the trick (roland should convert those .mid files to sysex .. saves on the baldness (pulling hair out) and the grief .... on the midiox sent it on the bog standard 256 ...lo and behold midi buffer full...... but send it on 390 and this baby came alive..

And from what ive read on the internet with others with this machine who had the same problem when the internal battery dies and the factory settings is lost... this sad and endless story can come to an end now..... and the roland advice of "sounds faulty send it to us and we'll fix it"... aye right we dont all have a swiss bank account matey (from Roland)

I am having EXACTLY the same problem restoring the factory sounds/settings into my Roland U220. Would it be possible to receive a copy of the converted sysex file mentioned in the previous posts?
I am at my witts end trying to restore my U220 and I can't believe I've found this thread dealing with the very same problem!
