Title: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by cprstn54 on Jun 8th, 2016, 2:15pm Fooled with MIDI when DOS was king and not since. Want to learn piano with Playground Sessions. Hooked my Win7 (64-bit) laptop to the CTK-6000 via USB. Casio drivers automatically installed by Windows. Device Manager shows CASIO-MIDI as a sound device. In MIDI-OX, I set CASIO-MIDI as the input and output. When I strike a CTK-6000 key, I see two lines of code on my laptop monitor. However, when I use MIDIBar to play a MIDI file, it plays on the laptop speakers if I select "default" or "synth" but I get a missing hardware message if I select CASIO-MIDI to hear it play on the CTK-6000. Casio advises that the CTK-6000 should be able to play in real time (versus batch) a MIDI file that is being processed on the PC. I am clueless as to the many options to set in MIDI-OX and could not find a manual or tutorial. Can someone please offer a simple suggestion or two to get me started on the road to enlightenment? Title: Re: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by Breath on Jun 8th, 2016, 10:30pm Hi Ken I don't have a Casio and it sounds like you have done all the things you need to do, but let me see if I can help. In MidiOx you must have gone to the menu Options / Midi Devices .... Go there again and see what the name of the successful Casio Output driver you have selected is called. If you have changed the name in Options / Customize Port Names ... you will have to select this to see the full name in the right hand side list. What is the full name of the output driver? Open MidiBar - the Midi file player - Actions / Play Midi..... and press the second button on the left - looks like the end of a Midi plug. Select the Casio driver, load the Midi file and play. I am assuming that you are doing all of this and you are getting the driver error. I have tried it on all my Midi interfaces and it works perfectly (M-Audio MidiSport 8x8 and 4x4, MotifXS, Novation UltraNova) so I connected one of the el cheapo Chinese things you get on Ebay that many people have trouble with. This doesn't have it's own driver (like all the other have) and so uses the Microsoft one like I assume your Casio does. This driver has been known to be faulty for years and MS seems to refuse to fix it. Sure enough, when I try to use it it gives the sames errors that you have. So because this MS driver has so many faults I can only suggest you contact Casio to see if they have their own driver or you will need to buy a new Midi interface. Roland UM-1 or Yamaha or M-Audio or Korg. Basically anything that has its own driver. All the best Royce |

Title: Re: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by Sonus on Jun 9th, 2016, 7:09am The class compliant USB-MIDI driver doesn't allow several applications to simultaneously access a MIDI device. http://www.casio.com/products/archive/Digital_Pianos_&_Keyboards/Portable_Keyboards/CTK-6000/ Only activate MCI Port in MIDIBar or just configure Media Player to access the CTK-6000 by using MIDISelector. http://openmidiproject.osdn.jp/MIDISelector_en.html Thanks to kuzu! |

Title: Re: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by cprstn54 on Jun 9th, 2016, 9:57am I am the OP. Thanks to all responders. Problem fixed. I wound up trying everything with no joy. Then the explanation that only one program could access the CTK-6000 at a time made me wonder whether MIDI-OX was interfering with itself. The only other activity was the Output Window showing that both MIDI ports were open. I found the button to toggle the ports and toggled them closed. After that I was able to send the MIDIBar output to the Casio USB MIDI port and my MIDI files played on the Casio. Ken C |

Title: Re: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by Sonus on Jun 9th, 2016, 11:35am My pleasure, midiox and midibar are different applications in program files (x86). It's very easy to create separate shortcuts and add a quick launch to the taskbar. http://i.pi.gy/wejG.png |

Title: Re: Newbie with Casio CTK-6000 Post by Breath on Jun 9th, 2016, 7:48pm Well spotted Sonus. Tried to test it and my el cheapo adapter gave up and now it will not load the standard driver in Win7. Too many other things to do than to mess about with these useless things. All the best Royce |
