Title: There are no midi input devices
Post by machambers on Dec 30th, 2021, 4:55pm
MIDI-OX can no longer find my M-Audio midi interface.
I last used it a couple of months ago and it worked fine.
Windows 7 x64, M-Audio 2x2 interface, MIDI-OX 7.0.2.372
I uninstalled and re-installed both the interface and MIDI-OX; no change.

I've done a system restore from the same time period and there is no change. The M-Audio device and ports are no longer listed in the MIDI Devices window.

The same machine dual boots Windows XP. The interface and MIDI-OX work like they should. (same USB port, same M-Audio driver)

I'm mystified. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Hi
just some quick questions.

When you say 'can no longer find my M-Audio...' do you mean you can't see it in the the Midi Port Routing window or it is not listed in menu Options/Midi Devices ?

Can you see the M-Audio interface in other Midi applications?

Let's see if we can solve the mystery or do we have to wait till next year? 8 )

The interface is no longer listed in Options | MIDI Devices. See line 5 of my post. :)
I don't have any other software installed that uses the M-Audio interface.
Mark

Update:
I installed MIDI Tools and it also cannot see the M-Audio interface. Windows Device Manager sees the interface (This device is working properly.) and reports it at different USB port addresses if the cable is moved to a different port.
I connected a MIDI Plus Tbox 2x2 interface in place of the M-Audio and both MIDI-OX and MIDI Tools can see it. This is a class compliant interface that cannot pass System Exclusive messages; thus why I no longer use it.

The problem appears to be whatever mechanism allows MIDI-OX (and other software) to see the interface. Something in the registry? Does anyone know where to look and what to look for?
I've re-installed the driver using the same file I used for the original installation so I doubt that's the problem. TIA

Sorry I missed it on line 5.

If you can't see it in Mark's Midi Tools as well then it is likely that there is a problem with the hardware or connections or  driver. Check that your current driver for Win7 64?

The M-Audio  driver for all my MidiSport interfaces is version 5.10.0.5141 in Win7 64. You can check in the Device Manger
On the 2x2 is the LED  dimming in and out?
If it is, the driver had loaded OK.

Usually when things just stop working you ask 'what has changed'.
Any new hardware?
Have you shifted the 2x2 to a different USB port?
Is it connected to an external USB hub?
Cable problems? Swap the USB cable

All the best

The problem turned out to be the USB port on the computer.

A couple of the ports on the computer work for other functions and even the class compliant MIDI interface, but not the MIDISPORT 2x2.
Time for an add-on USB card; I have an identical motherboard in another PC and all of it's on-board USB ports became flakey and had to be replaced.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have 3 MIDI devices:

Kawai MP-11SE (shown as KAWAI USB MIDI)
Studiologic Numa Organ 2 (shown as STUDIOLOGIC-MD)
Subzero MiniControl (shown as W-FADER)

All 3 are recognized by Windows 7 (under the heading 'Audio- Video- and Game controllers) and by Musescore (under Preferences - I/O - MIDI Input).

None of them are recognised by MIDI-OX.

I have checked all USB ports, and removed the Logitech Webcam, because that used to be a problem for MIDI-OX.

Nothing helped. What can I do?

Hi
Lets start with the the menu Options / Midi devices...
Is there a named Preset showing in the drop down list?

What is in the MIDI Input and the MIDI Output lists?

All the best

Thank you for your reply.

There were several problems at once, but it works now.

At first Windows 7 did not recoglize my devices until I used the USB ports labeled SS, and even now it takes a minute until they are all recognized. Then it seems that MIDI-OX must be restarted after a new device is attached. Then I didn't quite understand the appropriate section of the Help file at first. And then there was a problem with a USB prolongation cable that did not work properly.

After all I was able to send back and forth the SysEx patch file of the Numa Organ 2, which was the reason I downloaded MIDI-OX in the first place.

Thank you again for your reply that triggered my understanding of this matter.
