Desktop icons auto refreshhing

Jamie,

Thank you for writing Desktop Icon Save and Restore. It has been a godsend on my Windows XP machine. Recently, I had to use Acronis to restore my hard drive. All the desktop icons are in their proper places, but every few minutes all the icons auto refresh several times. I renamed the Windows iconcache.db file and rebooted in an attempt to get rid of this problem. Windows did not create a new iconcache.db file (!), yet all the icons are displayed properly. Unfortunately, they still auto refresh every so often. Is it possible that dkticnsr.dll is somehow involved in this situation? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Best,

John

Sometimes if you move one icon manually to a new location and then back to its former location, Windows will rebuild its own icon location cache.  Desktop Restore won't do anything behind your back: it has to be invoked from the desktop menu.
