Can't see output of diverted MIDI?

I've got a script diverting the midi through my script and everything works as it should but nothing shows up on the output monitor.  I tested to see that the messages are getting routed through the designated ports via other programs, and they are, but they don't show up in the output monitor.
 
Is this just a repercussion of setting the divertMidiInput property?  Or is something else going on that's hiding the output?

yah.. i turns out there's a right click context menu button called "Start Display"... hehe
