Very basic question.Ive installed Midiox and Yoke but cant figure out how to set up the routings and Midi Device settings to make XGEdit control the SW1000 synth while recording the SysEx controllers into Cubase in real time (without the problem of midi feedback). If someone could describe how to do this in terms of flow diagrams or screenshots of the Midi Devices window you will save a lot of brain-ache for the worlds least accomplished programmer. I'm in pretty much the same boat as yourself so I hope you get a response.  I have tried to configure it but haven't configured it correctly as all I get is midi feedback.

I went and poked around on the XGEdit site.  They only mention routings for Hubis Loopback, but the routings would be identical if you are using MIDI Yoke.  Just substitute a MIDI Yoke port for LB1, LB2 in the diagrams... and substitute MIDI-OX for Hwmdcable.exe in the diagrams.

Cool Here's a link to the info:

Jamie, thanks for the link...exactly what i needed. Still two problems though.First,XGEdit wont send SysEx to change programs in certain cubase songs. It works fine in the def. song (and the commands show up as SysEx in midiox) but when i try to work on another song changing the XGEdit parameters has no effect. When i check midiox no data is registered.I have tried to check everywhere on cubase to see if certain songs are filtering SysEx but i cant find anything.Secondly i still cant record realtime changes in XGEdit into cubase when recording (the reason i choose the whole setup in the first place!) since clicking on one window,XGE or Cub,automatically suspends the other one.Is there some way of allowing both programs to be active simultaneously? Really appreciate your advice and cool programs Tongue

I've got the same setup except that I'm using Hubi's instead of MIDI Yoke. What do you mean when you say clicking on one program suspends the other? That sounds very odd. Can you start Cubase playing a track and then flip over to XGEdit to change instrument voices etc? If not there's something very wrong. Maybe you could try re-installing one or all of the programs. As a last resort you could try using Hubi's (if you're running Windows 9x) although I don't want to un-recommend MIDI Yoke on their own forum  Tongue

Thanks for the reply.Youre right, something is very wrong.Cubase freezes when i try to switch screens.I just tried it with my old cubase v3.7 and it worked! I'm using Win95 on a P11 350Mhz pc. I'm not too up on my computers and this thing is driving me mad.Couldnt reinstall Cubase 5 cos i dont have the disk.Do you still think that would be my best bet or can you think of anything else? Cubase 5 is on a different drive to 3.7.Really appreciate your advice!

I'm using Cubase 3.7 as well so maybe it's just a problem with v5. If you don't need any of the extra features of v5 you might be better off sticking with 3.7 for now. I'm managing quite well on it  Cool

Actually i cracked it,after a mere 10 months, and of course it's embarrasingly simple. In the options menu there's a "Play in background" tab that i hadnt ticked.I suspect nobody told me about it cos they thought it was so obvious!Anyway, its all working. Now i just have to work out how to set up my Phatboy to control the audio mixer.....
