hi.

i just recently found out the capability of using your computer keyboard as a midi controller for 3rd party programs.

The program i am using is Ambiloop.  http://evenfall.com/ambiloop/  I would like to assign midi controls to keys on my computer keyboard so that I can control ambiloop.

The problem is that I don't know how to set up the midiox and midiyoke programs.  I've tried to search the forum but I couldn't find anything related to my problem.

If anyone could help please do.  By the way, I am new to this midi stuff so please explain like you are talking to a little kid.  Also, i am running on win xp.

Thanks in advance.

Please be more specific.  What are you trying to do? What have you tried?  What doesn't seem to be working?

Bear in mind that we're not familiar with the ambiloop program you name, so anything to do with that end of it is going to be conjecture.

SOrry about that.  Well this ambiloop program is a realtime audio program that loops any sound that is coming into the soundcard's "ins".  Its functions such as record, stop, play, pause, etc can be controlled by by clicking on buttons on the program interface itself or by a midi controller(midi keyboard, midi foot pedal and computer keyboard?).  Now what i essentially want to do is control those functions aforementioned with a computer keyboard acting as a midi controller instead of clicking a mouse to control its functions.

I assumed that if you have midiox and midiyoke properly installed and setup up, you could assign those available functions to a key on your computer keyboard.

What I have been trying to do recently is set up the midiox and midiyoke program so that ambiloop would recognize that my computer keyboard is acting as the midi controller.  The only success I've had is being able to setup the computer kebyoard as a midi controller.  I've been able to play and hear midi notes when i press the alpha keys on my computer keyboard.

Although that has been accomplished, I cannot then open Ambiloop and assign functions to my midi computer keyboard.

I hope that is more thorough.

THanks

The MIDI-OX Piano Keyboard is not a generalized macro facility, but you can map the notes it generates into other controllers.  To do so you need to check [x] Turn On Computer Piano Keys Mapping (After [OK]) in the Data Mapping dialog.

Is that what you meant?  Or does Ambiloop have a note mapping to controller facility?  Or does Ambiloop have a problem opening?

ok.

after many hours of trying to figure things out, i got it to work buttttt....

the ambiloop program only responds "midi-ly" when the midiox program is in use. when i minimize midiox it goes into my taskbar as a "streetlight" symbol, it no longer works.

i hope you understand what i am saying here.

Yes, MIDI-OX only translates the keypresses it receives - it doesn't intercept Windows keyboard handling in general.
