What if there's no Script Lock Key

Hi. I love these little programs, which I got a few weeks ago to boost the muted volume from my cheapo Radioshack/ Nexxtech keyboard (whose velocity is fixed at the middle value), & I even figured out how to do that using its help files, fairly quickly. And now I've discovered that the midi-ox not only has a keyboard function, like Savi- & Vst-Host, but it can play chords ... which is great for me to accompany myself -- since I only really ever played the trumpet, so _I don't know how to play chords_ Trouble is, method 2 -- which I'm thinking might be better for someone just learning how to play chords on the fly -- uses the scroll-lock key in conjunction with the number pad. But the new Logitech wireless keyboard (ex110) I was given for X-mas doesn't have one! And their tech support says there's no way for it to emulate one. (But thanked me for my suggestion to devise a script to assign to their function keys which can be assigned to trigger programs). So the q is: can you alter midi-ox, or can anyone write a script for me to trigger the chords' method 2 using, say, the 'Insert' or 'Print Screen' keys, instead? Or should I just do my noodling with method 1? Thanks

Thanks for helping me set a new Personal Record in my quest to keep my blood pressure nice and elevated. I can't believe some manufacturer feels they can make a unilateral decision and just throw out something that has been on keyboards since the beginning of time or 1970 whichever comes earliest. Why don't they just toss out a few letters while they're at it. I hardly ever use "Q". It's unbelievable, really. Scroll Lock is one of those keys guaranteed to always be there in my Windows Interface Documentation. As far as I'm concerned this keyboard does not meet minimum standards. I bet you already know by now that the rest of this reply is not going to end with a smiley-face. The problem in this situation is that we need a key that "latches", so your suggestions wouldn't work. That's why using something like Auto Hotkey http://www.autohotkey.com/ won't help either. The only "solution" would be to re-write this part of the app. Naturally we'd love to do that to fix some broken keyboard. Then maybe we'd find out that Keytronics keyboards don't come with the button we decided to switch to. I noticed you're not the only person with a problem and I'm not the only person pissed about it. http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=general&m essage.id=1889&nobounce#M1889 I personally found that this man's 6th point perfectly matched my own thinking on the subject: 6. Because of the way I am being ignored by Logitech I would not recommend buying it, I would have tried to go and ask for a refund but unfortunately there is no satisfaction guarantee where I am from, so I think that I will put it in the trash. I also enjoyed this comment from a different user (I think you can tell what the original comment from "tech support" was): I take umbrage at your comment "Sounds like you will just have to make do without it." No I don't have to make do. I will return both the units we purchased and will not recomment logitech to our clients/students again. Now, lest you think I'm mad at you I'm not But I can't give you a quick fix nor can I promise a solution will ever appear.

Okay, sorry about making your blood boil with that news, & thanks for the quick reply. ('course, returning the keyboard in disgust isn't really an option in my case, since it was a gift). About the diff's b/w triggering accomanying chords using your 2 methods, tho', for a _very_ amateur keyboarist: would I -- a noodling non-musician (except for trumpet for 4 or 5 yrs as a kid) who's now just fooling around with free VSTs to play during boring movies or commericials, & having to re-learn my one year of piano lessons to figure out chords & such -- be better off hooking up my other (cord-ed) keyboard to use the scroll-lock method? Or is there really not much diff. b/w the two in terms of either instructional value or esp. ease of use (w. the left doing the chords on keypad, & the right doing the lead w. my radioshack keyboard or the vst-host & mouse). Thanks

You don't have to apologize it wasn't you that got me excited. I guess it's just been a couple of weeks of several different situations where large companies bully their customers. As far as being in a learning situation regarding chords my thoughts on that are it's best to learn or become familiar with method one first. It's consistent and follows the general physical patterns of a "real" keyboard. That was the only method in MIDI-OX for a number of years. Method two is more advanced. The chords are more sophisticated. Ultimately you would want to learn the patterns. But the second method doesn't make as much sense without a basic understanding of the first. As far as ease of use in accompanying yourself the keypad probably has the advantage there. You should probably boot up with the regular keyboard every once in a while and see how it feels to you. I would say the instructional value is higher on method 1 until it becomes part of you and the ease of use goes to method 2 especially for accompaniment.

Thanks, for the thoughtful, helpful reply. And thanks for the link to the Logitech keyboard discussion... there's a prog. mentioned there I'll try, to see if I can get this supposedly multi-media keyboard to control something other than just the default Windows Media Player. Cheers
