.mid download to vl70-m

I have a .mid file sent to me that I want to put in my vl70-m. I have installed midi ox and am connected with M-audio 1/1. This is all new to me and I cannot figure out how to do it. (Think I have read everything) The midi ox says it is the tool to use for .mid but the only instructions I can find is for sysex files. Can anyone tell me what procedure to use to transfer this .mid file to the vl custom bank. Please be kind with term's, again this is new to me. Thanks, Gnat

You can use MIDI Bar (installed with MIDI-OX) to play the .mid file containing SysEx, but if you want to visually see the data, you'll need to install MIDI Yoke and route from MIDI Bar into MIDI-OX via MIDI Yoke. There are various reasons why manufacturers use .mid files rather than .Syx to wrap SysEx. One reason is that the SysEx can be 'played' back at lesds than full speed which auto inserts delays in the stream. Another is that there are more MIDI file players than SysEx utilities out there.

Jamie, Thank you for your response! I have used the midi bar as you suggested. That did give a hand shake to the VL-70M. It went as far as changing the name of the first voice in the custom bank to the correct name. However, I only got jibberish. Is there any thing else I need to know about the software or do you think the .mid file may be corrupt? I do not hear anything when I play the file and am not sure if I should. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Gnat

On possibility: Some inexpensive MIDI interface drivers do not particularly do well with SysEx buffers. You could test this with MIDI-OX and a hardware loopback -- search this forum for that. You'll also want to collect the MIDI file's SysEx in MIDI-OX to compare (using MIDI Bar, MIDI Yoke and MIDI-OX).
