What exactly is the purpose and benefits of MIDI-OX?

I see it reading my device's output, but what is that good for and how do I use that information/data? Huh

It is a Midi diagnostic tool and general Midi tool kit

"I've connected my keyboard. Why doesn't my synth sound?"
It could be miss-connected - Midi Out goes to Midi In on the other device. Miss-connection and no Midi would show in MidiOx
OR
The keyboard is outputting Midi on the wrong channel.
OR
etc etc etc

The input display is there to help sort out Midi problems as well as showing you the results of other MidiOx functions.

MidiOx can also
1) With the help of MidiYoke or loopMidi you can also see what Midi messages a program is sending out that might be doing weird things to you synth
2) Route Midi from one device to another (with the help of MidiYoke or loopMidi it can be from one program to another)
3) change one Midi message type or value or channel (or all three) to different one.
Continuous Controller (CC) to Patch Change (PC) etc etc etc
Just the job for - your controller only has CC buttons but you want to change sounds on your synth
4) Filter out unwanted Midi messages (Midi Clock, Active Sensing etc)
5) Send out Midi Time code / Midi clock
6) Load / Save system exclusive (sysex). Patches, Patch Banks, Songs, Samples etc etc etc
7) Midi player
8) Turn your QWERTY keyboard into a music keyboard.
9) etc etc etc

There is plenty here in this forum to show you the troubles and the solutions you might encounter with MIDI.

All the best
Royce

Hi
MidiOx records /saves System Exclusive files (patch or sample dumps etc) and plays Midi Files, but it doesn't Record/Save Midi files.

If you have already recorded the patterns give me the details and post again and I will see if I can help you sort it out.
A few more details is always helpful.

Otherwise I'll take it you have recorded some patterns into a DAW / sequencer
When you save your work on the DAW you can normally select what kind of file you want and there should be a ".mid" option in a drop down box or something similar.

If not you can grab a Midi sequencer from the web (there are a lot out there).
Check that it has the option to save Midi files. If it does, download it and install it and start recording the patterns and save as a Midi file.

All the best
Royce
